For Use as COLD pack:

To Freeze:

Place entire Patent's Pal unit (gel pack and wrap) into freezer for a minimum of two hours before using. For post-surgical use, either follow your surgeon’s instructions, or place around head, as shown, immediately after surgery. Wear Patent's Pal for 20-30 minutes or as instructed by your doctor, then replace entire unit into freezer and do not reapply for 1-2 hours. Repeat as needed for the first 24-72 hours after surgery. Reusable Gel Pack remains flexible when frozen.

For Use as HOT Pack

To heat in water: Submerge gel pack in hot (not boiling) water for 4 to 5 minutes. Carefully reinsert gel pack into white sleeve, using an oven mitt to avoid burns. Make sure that the insulated side of the gel pack faces away from the desired treatment area. Never apply heated gel pack directly against the skin. Always place Gel Pack inside sleeve before using. Heated gel pack should normally not be used for more than 30 minutes at a time.

For Moist Heat application, lightly dampen the outside of the white sleeve. The heat from the gel pack will go through the sleeve and warm the moisture, thus producing a very comfortable form of moist heat.

Microwave: Using a Microwave oven to heat gel pack is not recommended and voids warranty. Excessive heating may occur with microwave and gel pack may rupture. Caution: Do not overheat gel pack.

Usage Tips

  • When reinserting gel packs into sleeve, make sure non-insulated side rests against treatment area, as indicated on side of gel pack.
  • Best Results for Injuries -COLD therapy is usually used for tendon, ligament damage and swelling. HEAT therapy is used to heal muscles by reducing stiffness and encouraging circulation. Best results are obtained when therapy is begun immediately after injury.
  • Keep a Patent's Pal in the freezer to have it ready fast, when you need it most.
  • Allow frozen Patent's Pal to return to room temperature before placing in microwave.
  • Runners suggest having 2 Patient Pals – one for each knee
  • External use only. Danger: Excessive heating can cause gel pack to rupture and result in skin burns. Discard gel pack immediately if rupture occurs.
